Danmichael Reyes

Audio Auteur

Danmichael Reyes is a Los Angeles-based musician who specializes on a myriad of topics related to sound. This obsession with audio and the manipulation of sound started early when a very young DMR played with the EQ and kill-switches of his dad’s stereo system. He noticed the response from the speakers were tonally different as he slid faders up and down. Anticipating that he would get a scolding as he often did in his rather mischievous youth, he delighted that none of the adults in charge seemed to care about his EQ choices. If only this trend continued onward to his later career…

DMR has worked with/for folks under big corporate banners that include Def Jam, Revive/Blue Note Records, Tastemade, Magic The Gathering, Princess Cruises (as an arranger not a cruise ship musician), as well as a host of independently funded projects.

An alumnus of The New School and CalArts, he obtained a BFA and an MFA in jazz piano respectively. While his formal education centers largely around the piano, his professional career has seen him move from the piano bench into the producer’s chair.

In 2022, Reyes served as an engineer for Kajo’s Def Jam debut record, Cold Places. The following year saw him compose his first proper film score for director Vadym Medvediuk’s Good Bad Luck.

DMR is currently a producer and engineer at The Pie Studios in Pasadena where he continues to hone and perfect his many crafts.

He lives in East Hollywood with his wife, singer-songwriter/producer Elymie, and their silver tabby, Arugula The Disco Cat (known to them as Boogie Rugies for short).

He’s also very bemused that he had to write about himself in third person and is rather hyped that he no longer has to do so after this ultimate fullstop.
